Once again, our students will stay in the picturesque village of Low Newton by the Sea and practical sessions will take place at the walled garden in Christon Bank.
Course Dates and details:
Course 1 – 22nd-29th April 2023 This is the spring course when the main activity in the garden is soil preparation and seed sowing. Early in the season there is very little food produced by the garden (the hungry gap). There will be plenty of work pricking out and potting in the greenhouse. Course 2 – 13th-20th May 2023 This is the second sowing period for frost sensitive plants – sweet corn, courgettes, runner and french beans. Also a great time for those wishing to practice their scything skills! We will also be hoeing energetically between our seedlings. Daily schedule during courses:
Students arrive on Saturday any time after 5 pm, in time for a 7 pm welcome dinner.
We can collect those who come by train to Alnmouth (15 minutes drive), please let us know if you plan to arrive this way with train details.
We provide all food and drink through the week, including coffee, tea, juice, wine and home-brewed beer. Students prepare their own breakfasts with provided ingredients. Lunch is usually soup and/or sandwiches (often a working picnic), which students may help to prepare in the morning. The main meal of the day is the evening dinner party - something to look forward to after a long day in the garden.
**Please inform us of any dietary requirements when booking your place on the course**
The day's work begins at 9.30am. An initial brief is conducted indoors to gauge the group's interests and to make plans for the week, before heading to the garden at Christon Bank to get our hands dirty. Precise activities will be dictated by the time of year, weather, the group's interests and what is needing to be accomplished in the garden.
The costs of the 6 day residential course break down roughly as follows:
B&B: 7 x £40 per day = £280 Food and drink: 6 x £20 per day = £120 Teaching: 6 x £80 per day = £480 Total: £880 / person
Students wishing to book their place on the course of their choice should click the Paypal button on the Book a Course page to pay a £150 deposit – the balance of £730 will be invoiced for payment before the commencement of your course. Deposits are non-refundable.
